Pilotage
The most basic form of visual navigation, where the pilot determines position by looking outside and identifying landmarks on the ground and matching them to features on a chart. Rivers, highways, towns, airports, railroad tracks, and lakes are common pilotage references. It is typically used together with dead reckoning for VFR cross-country flights.
