Glossary/Checkpoint
Definition

Checkpoint

A prominent landmark or geographic feature selected during flight planning that the pilot uses to verify position along a route. Good checkpoints are easily identifiable from the air, such as towns, lakes, road intersections, or airports. Pilots note the expected time to reach each checkpoint and compare it with actual time to monitor groundspeed and fuel burn.
