True North vs Magnetic North
True north is the geographic North Pole, the fixed point where all lines of longitude converge. Magnetic north is where the Earth's magnetic field points, currently located in northern Canada and slowly drifting. The difference between them at any location is called magnetic variation. Pilots must convert between true and magnetic directions when planning flights using charts and compasses.
